10 weird things only British people do with chips

When it comes to fine dining and fancy food traditions us Brits are proud of the contributions we’ve made to culinary greatness. Men describe what an orgasm actually feels like After all, we are the land of high tea, Eton mess, Yorkshire puddings and crumpets. But sadly, when it comes to chips we lose our sense of decorum and class. In fact, our obsession with chips has gotten slightly out of hand. We see nothing wrong with dipping them into items such as egg yolk, or covering them under a mountain of cheddar.

Here are some weird things that all Brits do with chips.

1. Drizzle gravy all over them

Additions like a bit of salt and vinegar for seasoning is understandable, and doesn’t seem odd to many people. But what is a tad bit odd is the British tradition of covering a small plate of chips with the entire contents of a gravy boat. Gravy is no longer just reserved for a nice Sunday roast, but is also apparently a lovely addition to chips, no matter how soggy it makes them.

2. Overload them with cheese

Chips are great, and cheese is great. So of course in our entrepreneurial British ways we decided to fuse these two items together. And we ended up with the drunken food of the gods. Don’t forget the dollop of garlic mayonnaise as well. Yum.

3. Dunk them into strange things

We aren’t content with burying chips under layers of gravy or cheese, we just have to take it that one step further. This is evident when we decide to start dipping the humble chip into items it shouldn’t encounter, like runny egg yolk, curries, mushy peas, curry sauce and of course using it to mop up any excess baked beans sauce on our plates.
